Just Issues

As I sit here and look at my blog I realize how little I've posted since starting this up. Now why is that? Partly it is my just lack of desire to really do anything right now. I was injuried at work back in Dec and am now in a fight to get worker's comp to pay for my surgury so I can go back to work. Because of this I have been very depressed and am putting it here because maybe this will help me work through it. Also I write and am tryng to do that more.

Another reason is that I don't have any followers or even a comment or two. While I should be doing this for no recognition it still would help me be motivated to put more up.

As for what is coming up for me on the blog. Well I am hoping to write up my thoughts on fan fiction. What is good about it, what is negative about it, and what pisses me off about it. So if anyone still cares then just look for the first part in a few days. And if noone cares then oh well I'll still post it.

Epic Win

While playing the XBLA game Magic the Gathering I got this awsome final kill score.

My Issues with Twilight part 2

In this one I will look at my problems with the aspects of vampirism in Twilight.

The first thing is way vampirism is past from person to person. My problem is not with the fact that they will only change if the victim is left alive, it is with the delivery system. We are told by Alice that vampires have a venom that actually causes the change. once again this is not a problem. Having it described as a venom presents an interesting twist on the change. No my problem is that none of the vampires have fangs. Due to this lack of fangs we know that the venom is not injected therefor the only way it can be delivered is by saliva. This would mean that everytime Edward and Bella kissed she would risk getting poisoned and turning. And for all you naysayers that say no it can only be passed by blood remember at the end of the first book Edward sucked the venom out of Bella, an act that would have added more venom into her blood stream!!! That is like threating a snake bite by having another snake bite you.

Next I want to address the elephant in the room, the glittering in the sun. Now the only way I can figure that this works is that a vampire's core is so cold that what is being seen are actually ice crystals in the skin. Unfortantly for this to work it would mean that any direct light, be it from a flashlight, overhead projector, or even a nonflorecent lamp, would make the vampires glitter.

So what defence is there to these things? Leave a comment and let's see.

My Issues with Twilight part 1

First off let me say that I have read the first book. I read it because I made a deal with my daughter. If she read something that I thought was good then I would read something she thought was good. I gave her Harry Potter and she gave me Twilight.

Now while I could write a lot about my thoughts on Twilight I figured that I would pace myself with one here and there.

So now this is one thing that when brought up to fans I have never heard a satifactory responce is that the core of these books is rendered moot after the first book. The theme I am referring to is the purity/abstanice theme. The central ideal is that Edward will not bite Bella and taint her because once she is bitten then she can't be unbitten.

Please remember that in the climax of the first book James bit Bella. She is no longer pure by the standerds set forth by the book. This is like a virgin getting raped. Even if she never has sex again she still lost her virginity.

The reset button

Now I'm not talking about the button on your game machines. This is all about the reset buttons in comic books. For instance the story line Blackest Night for DC is a reset button. They did the story line to bring back any character that they killed off in the past few years. It is an insult to the readers that were invested in the older stories, and some of the stories that they are retconing aren't that old.

Marvel was even more disappointing with their most insulting reset: Spider-man One More Day!!(dramatic thunderclap) Now I know I'm not the first person to rag on this story but I mean come on. First let's talk about what happened just before that.

Before One More Day was Civil War. During that rather good story arc Spider-man revieled who he was. Now the powers that be in Marvel said that they would not change anything back because they had stories to tell with this version of Spider-man. Then out of no where it was announced that even though Aunt May said "Don't save me I leaved a long life." he still sells his love to the devil to save her life. This is not how Peter would be. All it was was that they just didn't want Peter to grow up.

So let me know what reset buttons you hate.
